I have made two longer trips by bike, crossing South America in 2009-2010 from Argentina to Colombia, and then cycling from Sweden to South Africa 2013-2015 along the west coast of Africa with a detour into the heart of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Traveling on a bicycle is the ultimate way to explore the world and it gives you a great sense of freedom. You can go wherever you want, whenever you want. You don’t have to follow any schedules, and there are no fixed routes. The speed is pleasant, not too slow and not too fast, but just enough to absorb all impressions and noticing all details, as well as being able to cover rather long distances. In addition, it becomes much easier to stop and chat with people along the road. Another cool thing is that you get to experience changes in culture, climate, season, topography, flora and fauna, with your legs being the only supporting force!

My name is Hasan Söylemez. I’m a Turkish journalist and documentary producer. I have been cycling and seeking biggest dream of African people since January 2017 in Africa. I started to cycling on my own from Morocco and will continue through all 54 countries on the African continent. I don’t know how long it will take; five years, seven years or ten years… It doesn’t matter! I’m still pedaling with love and excitement like the first day.
I’m taking a documentary series named ‘’Journey To Dreams’’. All episodes of documentary are include my adventures on the roads, lifestyle and nature of countries and African people dreams. I have published 8 episode of ‘’Journey To Dreams’’ documentary on my Youtube channel in English and Turkish subtitles till now. For every single country one episode. It will be 54 episodes. I try to know and understand Africa through the dreams of Africans. And let them to explain themselves to the world through their dreams.
The dreams I have heard vary from region to region, from country to country and even from village to village. The social, economic, political, cultural and educational situation of the society affects people’s dreams directly. If you want to know a person and a country, you must ask for their dreams. Because the dreams they have give clues about how to shape the future by holding a mirror to the past and the present. In this way I'm creating a “dream archive” of Africa.

We are Tim and Linda and we set off from our home in the UK in spring 2018 to explore the world by bicycle. Inspired by stories from previous cycle travellers, we wanted to experience the people, cultures and landscapes of the world, to travel in an environmentally friendly way and in part to challenge ourselves. Two years and 32 countries later, we are still blown away by the incredibly friendly and generous people we meet and the magnificent landscapes we are fortunate enough to roll through. Travelling by bicycle is a truly special experience and has taught us first-hand that humanity is overwhelmingly kind and that we are all just striving for the same basic needs of love and security.

Ridden 11.000 kilometers on four continents in one year as a fundraising project for World Bicycle Relief - an organization that is giving bikes to people in rural Africa, especially to girls to enable them getting to school. The bicycle is one of the best inventions of all times. While we are traveling the world on a bicycle, it is a necessity for people in some rural areas with no access to any other means of transport. To us, there isn't a better way to discover a country and its people. We experienced incredible hospitality from people all around the globe and have seen places we would never have seen else. It was an unbelievable adventure and it definitely wasn’t the last one. After-movie in progress. Cheers! Hanna & Nadiem

Probably as a result, Nick decided to quit his job, quit London, and go for an indefinite bike ride around the world. After three years he has pedalled 30,000km from London to Sydney and worked as an english teacher in China. He has no idea when or where this trip will end and has grown to love the lifestyle of destination-less and self-sufficient bicycle travel.

We are Aurelie and Marco but people now know us as 421adventure. It stands for 4 wheels 2 hearts 1 world and it’s probably the best description of our trip. The “adventure” part is self-explanatory, but to be more precise, it started in Helsinki on the 27th of April 2018 and it will finish in Singapore on the … whenever ! Ah Ah !
We relate all our impressions and unique experiences, as well as our biggest challenges in this blog -> www.421adventure.wordpress.com . If you are more the visual kind of person we have prepared for you a series of interesting videos on our YouTube channel -> www.youtube.com/421adventure , and if you want to follow us day-by-day, we share nice and interesting stories and pictures on Facebook and Instagram @421adventure .
During this adventure we are raising awareness about the power of the bicycle. It’s an amazing and useful tool and we would like to show that it’s much more than just sporting equipment or an incredible miracle of engineering; in many parts of the world and for many people having access to a bicycle can make the difference between being socially segregated and being part of the community.
Along the way we are also fundraising, 100% of the funds will go to two admirable causes;
88bikes provides bicycles to young women and girls in developing countries who have been victims of human trafficking or are at risk of being isolated from society. The association has been triumphantly doing so since 2007 and has successfully donated over eight thousand bikes to communities in 17 countries.
Wheels for Wellbeing is an award-winning charity supporting disabled people to enjoy the benefits of cycling so they can be more independent and healthier. They are also politically active to improve infrastructures, roads, etc. so that people with special needs can access public and private spaces more easily, particularly by bike.
You can be part of the story too by helping us to support these admirable causes. Just visit our donate section on our blog and… be part of the story !

I started my trip from my home in Finland in March 2014 and finished the trip to the same place in July 2016. First 10 months from Finland to Singapore I cycled together with my friend Lauri Ketonen. All together I cycled more than 27000 kilometres on five different continent.I learnt so much on the trip, but one of the most important things is that I learnt,we human beings are very similar all over the world. We have the same needs and the same fears.

First, Cook&Cycle started from a dream I had since I was 15, cycling the world ! While I grew up, my interest for food and sharing added themselves to the project and I thought why not combining my passion for traveling, cycling, and food ?
That's the starting point of the project Cook&Cycle. I had my idea but didn’t dare to start it alone. But when I met a friend who where exciting about this project and would love to join me for the 1st part, I realized this dream could become reality.
Therefore, in March 2017, I started my dream, jumping on my bike, joined by my friend Jonathan. We travelled 7,5 month together across South America and I’m now biking alone through Asia and then Europe.
My goal? Discovering the world the most simple way...led by my legs power, meanwhile sharing my culture through cooking and inventing a fusion between a French classic meal (crêpes) and the world´s tasty and various food specialties. Along the road, I’m writing a book: a collection of "crêpes" recipes created by people I met along the way, and others inspired by the specialty of the countries I tasted. It's a 1,5 year travel , through 3 continents and more or less 20 countries, which started the 16 march 2017. Lots of kilometers to travel, lots of people to meet, lots of food to share and discover...and 1 dream to be fulfilled .

"New Zealand is known as Aotearoa - Land of the Long White Cloud, and I believe we found the actual Long White Cloud while slogging up this hill one day as part of our circumnavigation of the South Island. We weren't the first people to do it, or the fastest, but if you want to experience what we experienced, watch my fast-paced short film (www.thisisnotaholiday.com/films). It's a total immersion experience, transporting you right into thick of the action; you'll feel you are right there in the sun & rain, slogging up and coasting down the hills, and above all dealing with the abundance of Tyres, Trucks & Tarmac."

We are Mark and Anastasia from Russia. By bicycles we visited many countries: Israel, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Russia, Cuba, Mexico. In the beginning we started to count our kilometers but then stopped... because its not important how many kilometers we did, most important that pleasure we got! How much incredible meetings! During cycling you can feel every meter of the road, every wind stream, finally you became a part of location. As prize we got big knowledge and great emotions! Step by step we did opening of the world...as a first people...as nobody was not here before us! We adore our bicycles and hope to do next travels in countries of Europa and Latin America.

I'm Teresie Hommersand, a 31 year old Norwegian girl, and I'm currently cycling solo from South Africa to Norway! From the most southern point on the African continent to the most northern point in Europe!!
After living six years in Cape Town, I'm cycling instead of flying back to Norway because of climate change and wanting to reduce my carbon footprint. I'm loving life on the bicycle seat.

I am from Russia and my story is a story of thousand people in hundred countries, dozens of big cities and small towns.
This is a story of 53 thousands and 772 kilometers way which I covered with my bike traveling around the world for two years and two months.
I suppose children's dreams to be the sincerest. They have nothing in common with self-interest and greed , they are pure and plain. I didn't dream about traveling when I was a kid. It was the way I lived, my dream was to write a book, so I made some notes about the nature. Now when I am a grownup , my journeys are a huge archive, which is by the way always open, of information for writing books, and my bike is the best tool I could ever dream about to get the information and to see through both my psychology and physiology. The life itself is a big journey, where traveling is a kind of narration,a kind of a very true-to-life-book. This is a way to communicate and the most important part of communication is, without doubts, people. The most precious thing for me is communication with people. I'm really into Learning and experiencing something new. They often ask me: "What useful do you do?" I answer that to do anything useful you need obtain a skill, and every of us is trying to do that. Speaking about me, I am Learning how to be a Man. One day , kindness of people in mountain area of Altai has absolutely changed my world. I had a need to close my understanding of life and people to theirs. I realized I need to learn how to be kind and unprejudiced; how to trust a stranger; to share your last piece of bread and help. These people who live in Altai understand life better than all new Technologies! I never forget the gaze of a child who lives in height of 3000-4000 m. He looks the sky and his eyes are boundless and bright like Heaven. While I was traveling I was implementing my project " The Rainbow - postcards for Peace and Kindness". I've been like a postman on a bike, I delivered postcards with wishes from children and adults to strangers from different countries and cities. Like a response those who got the postcards Drew pictures or wrote some good words on other cards and I delivered them to different cities. The postcards were delivered to schools and orphanages . They played a role of a link between people and showed that there is nothing to part us. Neither nationality nor languages, religions or skin color can separate us; Kindness, Love and Peace are those things that make us united. The people I met on my more than two years way possessed better features than I did, that's why I learned a lot from each of them. For example, I became kinder, less selfish and started smiling more. All these people were Teachers for me without real teaching. There is no bad man. There can be just barrier that hinders to see a Kind Heart, that sometimes is hidden because of fear or cruelty of the world. I will Always remember all people who i connected with trough my journey. Probably, this is a real gift to feel we are all one big family.
The result of my around-the-World bike trip is thousands smiles of kind hearts. This is something you can't buy like all significant and important things. You can't buy a choice, but you can make it!

' Steve left his home country in summer 2014 for a 6-9 month tour of Europe. After 1 year his funds were getting low so decided to return back to the UK.
He was having second thoughts the closer he got to home & 30km away from the ferry port, he sat down, made a cup of tea and made an on the spot exectutive decision to turn his bike 180 ° and head back in the direction he had just come from.
Over 30,000km and 25 + countries later he is still on the road.
Currently in Tunisia & planning a charity ride to North Cape.'

Their laughter echoed between the valleys and everywhere I looked I saw a big smile, a friendly face, kindness. The people in Laos are truly special, and they sure know how to make you feel welcome. "Sabaidii!"

Cycling through inner Asia mainly in winter was truly a unique experience. Places like Kyrgyzstan have after several months of stay felt like a second home for us. We specially loved the high Tibetan and Pamir plateau. Cycling on those altitudes feels like being on another planet.

Back in 2015 I started a 3 month bike tour of New Zealand, got carried away and spent the next year cycling home from Papua New Guinea to England. That first bike ride has now gotten well and truly out of hand as I am now planning on spending the next five years cycling more than 100,000 km through over 100 countries on six continents.
In order to make it more of a challenge, I've limited myself to travelling by land and sea only - no flights allowed. Around the world by bike and boat. A good old fashioned adventure.

We cycled from Beijing to Tehran together and that is when when we realized that travelling by bicycle is so underrated. It is rarely easy, often painful, and frequently miserable but it's entirely fulfilling and makes you wholly happy. There is not a moment spent on the bike that I regret, and hope many others will discover this joy

My name is Olivier, I'm french, 37, and during 7 years, from 2008 till 2015, I rode my bicycle, I hitched various sailboat and I flew my paraglide to perform a complete non-motorised world tour. That was the Fly'n'Roll (En route avec Aile) project. Since my return I found in writing a book a great way to complete and share the adventure.
What I found there was love and freedom, was happiness and simplicity. It was myself, it was Reality. Go for it!

We wanted to travel with bicycle to have time to meet people, to try to understand all the different cultures, and to feel the world with our legs. We also needed to have a break from our busy every day life in France, to have time to question ourselves, to think and of course to be together :). In 2016 we crossed all Europe from Paris to Ankara with a tandem bike, but we felt it was just the beginning when we arrive in Turkey which represented the "gate to Asia" for us. In 2017 we decided to travel with two bicycles from Turkey to cycle the silk road and to keep on cycling to Asia...
Our nickname is "Les Pralines", we are 31 and 32, we love to feel free on our bikes ! Cycling the world really changed our life !

Traveling by bike for us is to see the world at the pace of real life. We left our settled lives in September of 2017 from Barcelona, Spain and packed our lives onto our bicycles. Matt had traveled solo by bicycle a few times on short expeditions around Europe, but Larisa was starting her first long trip. We try to drop expectations and desires. This is about living life daily, fully, with love and positivity. Challenges happen and we face them one at a time. We are both attracted to the simplicity of this lifestyle and to how it allows us entrance to observe and experience countries far from where other tourists flock.
As of February, 2018 we are in Kenya and are currently riding south through Africa.
We are passionate to let our friends know there is far less to fear in this world than our heads imagine and for the most part, the kindness, beauty, and love out there is overwhelming.
Do the thing and you'll have the power!"

First we started with South America, without any idea about time we wanted to travel. But sure no end date! We continued to North America, all the way up to Alaska. After that, we flew to a new continent, Asia... South Korea, Japan, South-East Asia, China, which was completely incredible! As we wanted to go back home cycling, we crossed Central Asia last summer, Turkey, and finally back to Europe.
This trip, no sorry, this way of life was amazing, intense. We took the opportunity to make the promotion of Organ donation from our website and social networks.
Now, we are making a movie to talk about our adventure."

We stumbled across this lovely word when we started our first bike trip together in Liège in the spring of 2014 and have used it ever since. It’s a very handy multi-purpose word, but especially after reaching the summit of a climb. We like to take out rime on the road and meeting people is what bike travel is all about for us.

Sergio Borroni - https://sergioborroni.com/ -
Tornerà a casa 4 mesi e 6.000 km dopo.

"Thiago and Flávia from Brazil, a Pathologist and an Oncology nurse who used to work for a Cancer Hospital for some years. They had a dream of travelling the world.
Thiago was the only pathologist at that Hospital, so all the biopsys results were made by him. Everyday reporting cancer results he was seeing on th microscope, lots of times the patients were younger than him.
Flávia used to deal with terminal patients, who actually regret about what they hadn´t done or tried before getting sick.
After seeing death so close every day, they decided that the time to try their dream was "now". They left their jobs and sold everything they had to cycle around the world".

I’ve been on the road full-time since November 2015. But my journey is not about reaching a place. It‘s about being on the road, about pitching my tent every night in a new breathtaking spot, about waking up with the sunrise and preparing coffee. It’s about eating lots of bananas with peanut butter, cakes, and ice cream to keep my energy high for another day on the road. I like the fact that everything I need is on my bike and I enjoy living simply. I love the freedom, the adventure and living something new every day. I love bonding with people I meet and learning new things about their culture. Bike touring gives me tremendous happiness and has become my passion. More than just a sport; it has become my lifestyle. I feel that I could cycle around the world forever.

We like to think to this photo as ‘Spot the cycle tourists’.
For us, it represents exactly what we are trying to do which is immerse ourselves in whichever culture we find ourselves in. The beauty of cycle touring is that you discover things you would just never know existed. Our favorite quote from someone we met is, you go slow enough to see the trees, but fast enough to get through the forest. We were never bicycle enthusiasts, but one day decided to quit our jobs and travel the world in the most unique way we knew how. As soon as we started riding we knew we had made the right decision.
Hopefully this is what you’re after!
Cheers

‘Rolling East are an Australian and Italian couple who met whilst living in London. With the current political situation, not only in the UK, but the world, it seemed like it was the best time to get out and see our beautiful planet and it’s people before it’s too late. So, there it goes that in May 2017 they packed up their apartment and started Rolling East, towards Melbourne.
So far they have cycled across Europe, the Middle East, Central and South East Asia with the Far East next, followed by Australia. “The ability for us to see the vast landscapes, flora and fauna, culture and cuisine by bicycle is as good as it gets as it brings us so close to the day to day life that we feel 99% of tourists are missing out. We wouldn’t have it any other way!”.

I never cycled before and suddenly, like as for magic, I had a bicycle, 6 loaded bags and a soul full of curiosity, motivation, excitement and of course a bit of worries.
I had no idea if I would like it, what it would bring to me or how it would tourn out ... Cabooooooooom!!! The best and most incredible experience in my life.
Of course it is not always easy, funny or sunny but everything, every single experience is so i n t e n s e.
Every day, every single km is an adventure. Colors, smells, landscapes, people, food, culture, everything is in a continuous, slowly, constant transformation.
After six months riding a series of coincidences made cross my path with that of Dimitri. The little kitty was abandoned at the border of the road. "What should I do? Cycling Touring with a kitty?!?" ... 'impossible' would many think. I though the same, but today, after five months riding with my little companion, I can say: yes it is possible and quite incredible amazing.
Photo: Puerto Ibañez region, Chile. On the road we have to solve any kind of problem ... fortunately my little companion has a big virtue: it is very patient.

When we started our bicycle trip through the southern lagoons of Bolivia, our bags were filled with food for ten days. Knowing that food supplies along the way are practically non-existent, we brought lots of vitamins in form of fresh fruits and veggies besides the usual load of pasta and rice. We loved to eat our daily apple during the very consuming snack breaks, until, after a few days, the last one vanished and we had to continue without any energy boosters. On the fifth exhausting day of cycling along endless, dry deserts, climbing up steep mountain passes with altitudes up to 5000 meters, always accompanied by lack of oxygen, constant headwinds and miserable road conditions, we sat down for a picnic in the shade of some rock formations. While we were eating and becoming friend with a curious vizcacha, three jeeps full of Korean tourists stopped in front of us. Most of them were busy taking pictures of the cute animal, but one guy stood out of the group and headed directly towards us. Before we could say anything, he grabbed into his bag and offered us a delicious looking, red apple. Completely surprised and overwhelmed by this gesture we thanked him around thousand times, smiling from ear to ear. He whereas, was so happy to see what a big favor he was doing us, that he pulled out one apple after another until we found ourselves embracing six apples with our hands. Then he smiled, waved and left. Experiencing moments like that always keep us going on our journeys. Receiving and spreading positive energy is one of the most important reasons why we love to cycle and why we will never stop.

We left the UK in April 2017; two women, two bicycles packed with essentials and a willingness to explore the world tracing the history of paper. We both wanted to mark our 50th birthdays with a unique and challenging experience with our bikes. Our idea was not just to travel by cycle but to discovery the way people have and still make paper today. Our route has taken us through Europe, the Balkans, Central Asia, China, Taiwan, Japan and now to North America. Our field research has taken us to remote villages in China, where women are the frame work of handmade mulberry paper, to a paper goddess temple in Japan, where the goddess called on villagers to make paper and to Vancouver to see an architectural company utilising paper as an alternative to shelters and interior solutions.
We have travelled through 21 counties and cycled almost 15,000km. Our journey will come to an end in California and we hope to create a unique publication that unites our journey and the paper stories we have uncovered.

Hi, my name is Takuya. Call me Tak! I’m 24, living in Kyoto, Japan. I love traveling with my bicycle for a month or two a year. I don’t like trans-continental tour but conpact one around just one or two countries at once. Why? I want to know local people deeply. I love talking and eating with locals. So I’m learning Arabic because I will travel Sudan for next trip. I’m asking a question - what is a happiness? - to people who I meet in travel, hoping the world will be peaceful.
